My undergrad years were pretty all over the place! I attended far too many colleges while trying to find my way. I started out on a fashion design scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and lasted one semester. I quickly realized I wasn’t stellar at pattern-making (too much geometry!) nor drawing and sewing all day. I shifted to a Communications focus while at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and eventually obtained my Bachelors of Arts degree in Human Resources Management from Metropolitan State University.
While working in higher education as a Talent Acquisition Manager and Assistant Director of HR, I powered through 4 years of part-time graduate work while working full-time. My proudest accomplishment is getting my Masters of Arts in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management in 2013. I had to buy myself something to https://carlsonschool.umn.edu/commemorate the moment of walking across the stage to get that diploma – so I rewarded myself with my first pair of “red soles” (a la Christian Louboutins)!
Ultimately, I have 15+ years of experience leading HR teams and creating strong, supportive working environments influenced by DEI initiatives. I am constantly working towards HR operational improvements and ensuring company compliance with legislations.
I am an advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – my application to grad school stated this aspiration back in 2008! Now I can proudly say that I am a DEI Program Manager and loving making meaningful contributions in the professional world while balancing the current unsettling events in my Minneapolis community.
I’m a little uncertain with the new disabilities on how the HR career will progress, but always passionate about the hard work and value HR professionals provide!
